Angiography Pivotal Study
Seven hundred and fifty patients were tested with PREVU* POC Skin Sterol Test, total serum cholesterol, fractionated serum cholesterol and coronary angiography. The results showed:
- Skin cholesterol is a new risk factor for coronary artery disease;
- Skin cholesterol has the strongest correlation with angiographically proven disease (stronger than total cholesterol, LDL or HDL individually);
- Skin cholesterol correlates with history of heart attack, which is the most important predictor of future heart attack; and
- Skin cholesterol provides significant additive value to HDL in risk assessment for coronary artery disease.
Dr. Sprecher concluded that the predictive value of skin cholesterol remained consistent after adjusting for age and other risk factors.
